Please note: the following article is written for those with limited experience in purchasing commercial laser hair removal devices.

Your equipment, apart from your expertise and personality, is the cornerstone of your product offering. Choosing the right device for your clinic is a multilayered decision that impacts your business financially, from a product offering standpoint and also in your ability to scale and grow if and when you choose to.

Considering Growth

This is a tricky one. If you have aspirations of growing your clinic down the line, you have a couple of options.

  1. Treat more customers using the same equipment
  2. Purchase an additional laser hair removal device

This is important, because if you prefer to treat more customers with the same piece of equipment, then you’ll need a machine that can complete treatments quickly. However, if you want separate machines, then you may wish to spend less on a slightly slower device, and save some cash for a new piece of equipment when the time comes.

The key measure here is gigahertz (GHz), which relates to the speed at which your device operates. Simply put, cheaper devices will most often have a lower GHz, and more expensive ones will be higher and as a result will be able to treat more customers, faster.

Mathematically, you should work out how many treatments you need to complete per day to meet your financial expectations. Will this mean an additional treatment room at some stage?

Products

Are you going to offer laser hair removal as a standalone product, or introduce additional skincare treatments such as microdermabrasion, LED, facials etc?

There is something to be said for both – it’s good to be a location for a specific product, and also a “one-stop-shop” – but your decision will impact on the type of device you choose. Think about your offering as a whole, including the space required once you expand into other treatments if applicable, and allocate your budget accordingly.

Financial

One of the biggest challenges when it comes to starting and growing a laser hair removal clinic – or any business in the beauty industry – is financial limitations. Our customers are far more educated than they used to be, and because of this, they often have expectations around the equipment you are using.

Of course, banks and financial institutions offer loans, but these can be restrictive, and not in the way you might think. As mentioned previously, being stuck with a machine that no longer fits with your growth plan can create problems of its own.

That’s why we offer small businesses the opportunity to rent a device for a set weekly cost and upgrade when they want to get a faster machine and improve their efficiency. Our product offering includes Candela, Spectrum, Palomar and more, and our rental clients also enjoy seven-day servicing included in the contract. This means there is less downtime and more profit for you, the business owner.
