In the colder months are the perfect time to introduce microdermabrasion into your list of treatments. Clients speak of the dull skin being transformed, imperfections being reduced and the incredible glow that comes with the treatment.

Microdermabrasion also has the advantage of being well-known and relatively easy to implement. A trained aesthetic technician, a treatment bed, a sink and the machine itself is all you need to create a steady flow of delighted (glowing) clients.

The treatment itself has a wide following due to a broad range of benefits. Treatment can aid in the reduction of:

· Uneven skin
· Wrinkles
· Enlarged pores
· Acne marks
· Enlarged pores

Not to mention the additional benefits associated with the more effective absorption of lotions and moisturisers, and increased levels of collagen, giving the client a plumper, healthier-looking appearance.

Additionally, the treatment is non-invasive and doesn’t take a long time (around 30 minutes on average). Clients can leave the treatment and return to work or go about their day, although some will experience minor redness. While some clients will mention mild discomfort, the microdermabrasion treatment – contrary to popular belief – is a relaxing one. A worst-case scenario is a mild discomfort around highly sensitive areas, but the vacuuming of the devices far more prevalent than the crystals removing the top layers of skin.

The best way to describe microdermabrasion to clients is that it’s a form of “buffing,” removing the redundant dead or dying skin cells from the epidermis, revitalising the face by bringing the living cells to the front. Remember also, the microdermabrasion treatment can be used on most parts of the body so a good way to introduce a client to the benefits, and feeling, of the treatment is to begin with the back of the hand or arms.

Microdermabrasion compliments any treatment catalogue, working perfectly in tandem with facial treatments, hair removal treatments, light therapies such as pulsed light (IPL) or LED, and can also serve as a standalone offering. The promotion of treatments is simple, the mainstream nature of microdermabrasion makes it easy to communicate the benefits and the results are evident in the very short term.
