The Carbon Facial, or China Doll Laser Facial, or Hollywood Peel is a non-intrusive treatment that is ideal for busy clinics.
The basis of the treatment is the application of a layer of liquid carbon which is left for about five minutes, allowing the carbon to soak in and solidify on the skin. At this point, there is a significant resemblance to a clay mask and a similar feeling for the client.
The device that is used for a carbon facial treatment is either an IPL or laser device. Laser hair removal devices work very well, although we prefer tattoo removal devices such as the Helios III.

The laser and the carbon when combined, produce a minor explosion on the skin. Essentially, the laser is attracted to the carbon naturally. When they meet, the epidermal layers are impacted, creating a reaction that at an epidermal level removes all dirt and residue. More importantly, the reaction also activates elastin and collagen, which improves the elasticity and plumpness of the skin.
There are many advantages to the client. Firstly, results are immediately apparent the skin taking on a glow after a few hours. It should be noted that a certain amount of redness can occur immediately after the treatment.
Next, the treatment can be completed quickly. Comparable with microdermabrasion (apart from the mask application), the entire process takes approximately 20 minutes, which makes it an ideal treatment for central city clinics attracting the lunchtime crowd.
Finally, there is no downtime. Apart from the usual recommendations, such as applying an SPF 30+ sunscreen moisturiser to avoid damage from the sun, the client can head back to the office looking fabulous and feeling refreshed.
It is advised you offer your client a package deal of between four and six treatments to be completed weekly or fortnightly. Following this, they can expect to see good improvement in the plumpness and elasticity of their skin and a reduction of any flaws and imperfections such as scars.
Best of all, the carbon facial has been around for a while, and the response is still positive. Clinics with existing laser equipment should consider researching the treatment, and potentially building it into their menu.
