HIFU and Fractional RF treatments are gaining in popularity, especially as clients improve their understanding of what enhances their skin’s appearance. Rejuvenation treatments, thanks to increased scientific interest, are now far more evidence-based than ever. As a result, it’s up to us as practitioners to offer the best solution to our clients.

Skin analysers and other diagnostic tools aid in this, but what’s the best treatment to offer in your clinic, to make sure you’ve got an offering that will add as much value as possible to your clients?

HIFU

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) uses focused ultrasound energy (yes, the same energy as is used to view a baby during pregnancy) to heat up sub-dermal skin layers, enhancing the cellular increase of collagen where it will have the most benefit.

Where other treatments heat the outer layers of skin to increase collagen, HIFU is working on the layers of skin that aren’t immediately visible. As a result, it can take weeks or months following HIFU treatments to see results. However, those results can last longer, with some clients saying that the results of HIFU are visible for anywhere from 6 to 12 months.

Fractional Radio Frequency

Fractional RF uses electromagnetic waves and dermal-stamping to heat the surface of the skin and encourage collagen production. While there are two versions of RF, in this article we’re focusing on the non-invasive treatment. For interests sake, invasive RF combines heating with micro-needling.

Traditional RF uses blunt electrodes to deliver electromagnetic waves and has a short recovery time. Your clients will start seeing results after 2-5 treatments and those treatments will need to be spaced out by 7-10 days.

When choosing which treatment is right for you, consider the overall client experience. how can you best combine longer-term treatments with the benefits that come from treatments that show immediate results?
